ChatGPT Bulk Delete now has a daily limit: free alternatives compared (2026)
Updated 6 November 2026
If you installed ChatGPT Bulk Delete, the most-installed extension for clearing ChatGPT chats, you've probably met its free plan: "one bulk delete run per day, with up to 10 conversations per run", after signing in with Google. Removing more than that costs $4.90 a month, $19.90 a year or $39.90 once. That's the developer's right, and the extension still does the job. But if you only wanted to delete 60 test chats on a Sunday, there are other ways.
This page compares what ChatGPT offers built in, that extension, six others, and the one I made. Every figure was checked on 6 November 2026 against the developer's own store listing, pricing page or privacy policy, which are linked at the bottom. Where a developer doesn't say, the table says "not stated".
Disclosure: I made Bulk Delete Chats, the last row in the table. I've tried to be fair to the others, and I say where they do more than mine.
First, what ChatGPT does by itself
Before installing anything, check whether the built-in options cover you. They're free, need no extension and work on every browser and in the mobile apps.
| You want to… | Built-in option |
|---|---|
| Remove a handful of chats | Hover a chat in the sidebar › ⋯ › Delete › confirm. One at a time. |
| Remove everything | Profile picture › Settings › Data controls › Delete all chats. Includes archived chats and chats in Projects. No undo. |
| Clear the sidebar but keep everything | Settings › Data controls › Archive all chats. Restore any chat later from Archived chats on the same page. |
| Keep a copy before deleting | Settings › Data controls › Export data. A zip arrives by email. |
What ChatGPT doesn't have is a middle option: tick thirty chats, keep the rest. That gap is what all the extensions below fill. More on the built-in routes in how to delete multiple ChatGPT chats at once.
The extensions, side by side
All eight run in Chrome (and the other Chromium browsers). Free caps and prices are quoted from each developer's own pages; "per run" and "per action" are their words.

Trust signals
Users, ratings and dates are from the Chrome Web Store on 6 November 2026. The store rounds user counts and doesn't show them for new or small items. The last column is what each developer says leaves your browser, in their own privacy policy or listing; it's their statement, not my audit.
| Extension | Users | Rating | Updated | What leaves the browser, per the developer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Bulk Delete | 70,000 | 2.4 (435) | 14 Oct 2026 | Google name, email, picture and account ID; plan; daily run counts; a hash of your ChatGPT session token. "Your ChatGPT conversations never leave your browser." |
| ChatSweep | 9 | 5.0 (1) | 29 Oct 2026 | Store form lists personal info, authentication, activity and website content. Listing: "does not read message contents or upload conversation titles." |
| AI Toolbox | 40,000 | 4.5 (1K) | 4 Nov 2026 | Email and account ID read from your session; folder names, saved prompts, settings and a usage tracker synced to its servers; selected chats sent for some features (bookmarks, PDF export, summaries) and discarded afterwards. |
| Bulk Delete for ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini | Not shown | 5.0 (4) | 24 Oct 2026 | Anonymous usage events tied to a random install ID; email if you sign in for Premium. "Chat titles and content … are never sent to GetPickAds." |
| Superpower ChatGPT | 100,000 | 4.6 (3.7K) | 3 Nov 2026 | Policy (Oct 2024) says features may process and retain "text, files, images, audio, settings, metadata", hosted on AWS; ChatGPT login is not saved; OpenAI traffic isn't routed through its servers. |
| DeclutterGPT | 20,000 | 4.1 (90) | 22 Jun 2026 | Token and conversation IDs "never transmitted or stored on any external servers." |
| Delete All Chats for ChatGPT | 20,000 | 3.6 (334) | 29 Oct 2026 | A random identifier plus extension version, browser language and approximate country. "Does not collect your email or the content of your chats." |
| Bulk Delete Chats (mine) | Not shown | No ratings yet | 5 Nov 2026 | Nothing. Store form: "will not collect or use your data." It talks only to chatgpt.com. |
Where the others do more
A fair comparison has to say this: several of these are bigger tools, and bulk delete is one feature among many.
- Folders and organisation. AI Toolbox and Superpower ChatGPT both add folders (nested in AI Toolbox; subfolders, colours and drag-and-drop in Superpower). If your problem is finding chats rather than removing them, those are the ones to look at. Mine has no folders.
- Export. AI Toolbox exports chats as TXT, Markdown, JSON or PDF; Superpower exports to PDF, TXT, JSON and Markdown; the Pick Ads extension exports Markdown free (5 a day) and ZIP bundles on Premium. Mine doesn't export; I'd use ChatGPT's own Export data and our export viewer to read it.
- Other AI sites. Bulk Delete for ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini works on claude.ai and Gemini as well (archive is ChatGPT-only there). AI Toolbox covers Gemini, Claude and Grok. Mine is ChatGPT only.
- Firefox. Superpower ChatGPT has a Firefox add-on. The rest, including mine, are Chrome-only at the time of writing.
- Auto-delete. Superpower's Pro plan can delete or archive chats older than a set number of days by itself. Nothing else here runs unattended.
- Preview. DeclutterGPT lists "Preview Chats" so you can review chats before deleting or archiving them.
What mine does: list every chat with its last-updated date in its own panel, search titles, shift-click a range, select all, and then delete or archive any number of them with a confirm step that states the count. It paces itself to ChatGPT's rate limit and waits out a "too many requests" block instead of failing. A filter for chats older than a date, an Archived tab and chats inside Projects are coming in the next update.
How to switch
- Export first. Settings › Data controls › Export data. Deleting can't be undone, so wait for the email before you clear anything you might want.
- Decide what to do with the old extension. You can keep it; two bulk tools don't conflict because each uses its own panel or buttons. If you'd rather remove it, go to
chrome://extensionsand click Remove. Any paid plan you have with that developer is managed on their site, not in Chrome. - Install Bulk Delete Chats (or whichever row suits you) and open chatgpt.com.
- Open the panel with the toolbar button or Alt Shift D. Tick the chats, click Archive or Delete, check the count, and leave the tab open until the progress bar finishes.
If you're unsure about a chat, archive it. Archived chats stay in your account and can be restored from Settings › Data controls › Archived chats. The difference is spelled out in ChatGPT archive vs delete.
FAQ
Is there a free bulk delete for ChatGPT without limits?
Yes. As of 6 November 2026, DeclutterGPT lists no limit and no paid plan (last updated June 2026), and Bulk Delete Chats (mine) is free with no cap and no account. Delete All Chats for ChatGPT describes itself as free for occasional clean-ups with paid plans for heavy use, without publishing a number. The others cap the free plan: 10 chats once a day (ChatGPT Bulk Delete, ChatSweep), 5 per action (AI Toolbox) or 30 a week (Bulk Delete for ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini).
Does ChatGPT have bulk delete built in?
Partly. Settings › Data controls has Delete all chats and Archive all chats, which act on every chat in the account. There is no built-in way to tick a set of chats and delete just those; for that you delete one at a time from each chat's ⋯ menu, or use an extension.
Do these extensions see my chats?
Every one of them works inside your signed-in ChatGPT tab, so it can read your chat list there; that's how it shows you checkboxes. The question is what goes to the developer. ChatGPT Bulk Delete, ChatSweep, Bulk Delete for ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini and Delete All Chats for ChatGPT all say chat titles and contents stay in the browser while account or usage data goes to their servers. AI Toolbox syncs folders, saved prompts and settings to its servers and sends selected chats for some features. Superpower ChatGPT's policy says Service Data may include text and files and is hosted on AWS. DeclutterGPT and Bulk Delete Chats say nothing is sent anywhere. Read each privacy policy before installing.
Can I undo a bulk delete?
No. OpenAI says deleted chats can't be restored, by you or by support. If you might want a chat back, archive instead of deleting, or export your data first (Settings › Data controls › Export data).
